Dinner seating for bride/groom parents - together or separate?
My fiance and I have differing opinions on this one....we are getting married in a bit over a month, and cannot agree on whether to sit both of our parents at the same table or neighboring tables during dinner. I wish to have the sets of parents sitting at neighboring tables because we are sitting 8 to a table, and have grandparents, out-of-state relatives, etc who I would like to sit with my parents. Likewise, his parents would sit with our pastor (friends w/ his mom), the niece/nephew of my fiance (whose parents are in the wedding party), and out-of-state family members. He wants the parents to sit together as a sort of symbol of both families becoming one. Which is more appropriate? The last thing I want to do is offend anyone. Thanks in advance!
The ceremony is the part where you can have the "symbolism" of each family joining together (think: sand ceremony or unity candle). The reception is a time to have fun and relax. Each set of parents at their own table, with their own family and close friends, but do put these two tables right next to each other in a prominent section of the reception hall.
p.s. you can always ask each set of parents what THEY would prefer.
