UV varnish: the real bright nail polish

I wasn't around much in the 80s but I know from my mum that black light was big. Everyone loved it and I remember my elder brother buying the UV lamps to fit in his room (dad was horrified), made your teeth look so white.

I secretly love those lights, the way me and my mates laugh while pointing at each other's reflective clothes. Shoelaces get a brill shine. Ooooh, brings back memories from my childhood. UV Nail Polish is like...cool 80s stuff

Ok, enough. What's all this to do with nail polish? Well, guess which brand picked up on this kind of thing, did some cool brainstorming and came back with a great idea? Yep, our Aussie friends down under, the BYS brand (which is big with them) and their new UV nail polish.

When I first heard of this, I must admit I felt a bit fogged. UV nail polish? Sounds like something from Startrek. Anyway, round at my friends later, i asked a couple of savvy beauty bloggers amongst them. Yay, UV nail polish is just great under black light.

I was like a child in a sweetshop by now, going through the BYS site, desperately trying to work out how to get hold of this nail paint over here. I mean someone like me just had to give it a try.

In the blink of a UV light, I had my set of new BYS UV nail polish. The rainbow of colours is like...er...the stuff we were using in the late 90s when the Spice Girls were around. I mean we're talking here about acidic yellows, oranges and greens, electric blues and even sparkly violets and chewing gum pinks! I used to think I'd never wear those colours again and there I was with a set of very loud deep blue nails and loving it. Hey, I'm ready to go out partying....under the UV lights.

Actually, I've already put them to the test because...um..I wanted to step under the black light and see my fingers become the centre of attention.
Well, it was okay because the colour doesn't look garish or cheap and the effect is fantastic. All right, calm down, I just love those UV lights, 80s or not.

This bright BYS nail varnish is pretty thin so don't attempt a full opaque look. That doesn't affect the look under the UV light though and better to use a top coat to protect it from chipping and this BYS brand is great cos it has a UV topcoat too.
