Serious Engineering.?
I want to replicate a mercedes sl65 amg to original specs in terms of appearance.No fibreglass or plastics will be used.I want to use a space frame chassis and get parts from a donor mercedes. Once the rolling chassis is complete, I want to add the body panels.Is it possible to manufacture these panels for cheaper, or would it be more cost effective to order the panels straight from Merc. (This does look a bit dodgy, but i will be using a spaceframe chassis and it will look identical to the production model)
It sounds like you are getting ready to spend a f**kload of money.
My suggestion would be to find one of the actual cars in questionable condition (if possible), and rebuild it.
Either that or pick another car that you can find.
Myself - I'm a fan of 60's mustangs. I've got a '65 that I have been steadily improving with better brakes, ignition, steering, structure, etc. It's faster than hell (289 w/holley 4-barrel) and will get around nicely.
