Is it alright to change all fish tank water?
I have a 45 gallon fish tank with a black moor and a pearl scale goldfish in it. I did have another pearl scale but he died of ich/fungus. The tank water has been very cloudy for a week now and i am wondering if it would be ok to do a 75% to 100% water change?
In situations like this a very heavy water change isn't a bad idea at all. I would do it if I were you. There isn't anything wrong with big water changes if you know what you are doing. Certain breeders perform up to 90% water changes daily on their fish. In general large frequent water changes are okay but large infrequent water changes are not that good.
But its always better to have to have your fish in good quality water so I would recommend a massive water change if the water is terribly cloudy.
By the way, changing all the water is not like a new tank. As long as your filter bacteria are kept well the cycle is still maintained.
