what does a turbo timer do?

noob question, i know....its just i got my first car and it has a turbo timer for the turbo and im not sure how to make it work properly and for what it does.

It allows the engine to run for a preset time at idle to allow the turbo fan time to slow down and cool off while the bearing in the turbo charger is still receiving oil from the engine system.

Otherwise, the engine would shut off with the turbo still hot and spinning, without the oil the bearing would overheat causing the little bit of residual oil to bake onto the bearing surfaces reducing turbo life.
